Project Description
I plan on writing a research paper on state policies concerning light pollution.
My audience will be people in government and environmentalists who study and are aware of the environmental impacts of light pollution.
The questions this project will address will be things states can do to help address light pollution from learning from other state policies. This project will hopefully shed light on easy solutions to light pollution and successful ways other states have addressed this issue.
Background
I want to do this project because the issue with light pollution is real and can be easily fixed if done right.
The academic work that has prepared me for this project is every ESP class I have taken.
This project shows my interdisciplinary learning by getting out there and talking to different resources about this issue. This addresses a problem shown in the outdoor world and uses ESP to fix a problem every outdoor goer face, through lack of stars and negative impacts on wildlife.
One class in particular that has prepared me for this project is Foundations of ESP. In fact this is were I first learned about the issue with light pollution from. a guest speaker who was addressing this issue. In this class we discussed the importance of policy in government and how it dictates success in environmental science field. Understanding policies also aid in getting grants and funding for projects (change).
Delivering & Assessing
This project will be presented as a research paper.
I do not think the Eport will be the appropriate place to share this research paper.
I will know if the project is successful if my peers and ESP professors take notice and thinks its worthy of being sent to state officials.
Planning: Resources & Needs
I have done many research papers like this in ESP, I will need to know how to use google properly and remember my goal in this research to not make my information confusing and all over the place. This is mostly due to the amount of information I plan to find (a lot).
Research skills, talking skills, and understanding knowing when to consolidate and narrow down information.
My ESP professors and I will mostly be utilizing the internet.
Planning: Risks & Challenges
The challenges with this project will be navigating the vast amount of information I will find and narrowing down the research to make it make sense and show meaningful comparisons.
If I don’t succeed with my main goal the best thing, I could do is to use my research I’ve already done and find ways to (maybe by talking to policy makers) impact state policies.
